Bookstores are magic. They combine my two most favorite things: books and coffee. I cannot just go a buy a book. I must wander the shelves, select several possibilities, get some coffee and settle in a cozy corner to browse my selections and see which ones I will buy.
In Second Life®, bookstores (and libraries, and coffee houses too) are both retreats for reading and places to socialize. I only found a few pure bookstores but found a number of places that combined books with poetry readings, writers groups, game nights, prose readings, discussions and other forms of socializing.
In some bookstores you can even acquire books, digital books of course. Some are for sale and others are free. Book Island and the Libraries of Caledon are the best places to actually shop for books. They have a great variety of books available.
Below I’ve listed several places to visit and given a small description of what you will find at each location. Please, explore these locations. One of them might become your special place to settle in for some calm moments lost in a book.
Some Places to Visit:
- Art & Words Cafe, Caledon II (82, 167, 22).
Art Gallery, Bookstore and Coffee Shop and home to The Write Spot, a group for writers in Second Life. Owner is Brigid Ashwood (brigid yoshikawa).

Book Island is all about books and is home to many book-related shops including Librairie Aco Books, Finesmith & Glinka, and the Writer’s Block Cafe. There is an Improv for Writers at the Dive Dar (Thurs, noon SLT) and a huge art gallery. The whole sim is worth an exploration.
