I’m a judge for the currently running LUXE Paris Look of the Year contest. This is the second year that I’ve done it. Last year we just did one judging and this year we are judging semi-finalists every week.

It is a curious process… judging. I mean, what do I know? I’m a journalist and while I’ve watched SL fashion as a writer and editor for many years now, I’m still not a designer or model. Anyhow I, show up, dig in and do it.

I think it’s that way for a lot of life. I’ve not been prepared for a lot of things that have happened to me or for situations in which I’ve found myself. Still, I muddle through. Miguel Ruiz, in his book The Four Agreements, says that we always do our best. In a lot of situations “my best” did not seem to be very adequate, but that’s his point… At that moment I did the best I could even if it was perhaps not the ideal response. The beauty of believing that I always do my best is that I can forgive myself. At every moment, I do the best I can and I’m OK. That’s very comforting.

But I digress. My fellow judges are an illustrious group. Their photos grace this page.  Boniefacio Boucher is my colleague in publishing and is the owner of ModeLS magazine. Katie M. Xevion is the owner and founder of Superior Modeling Academy. Lorelei Maggs-Myer is a model and last year’s winner.  Marcus Lefevre is the CEO of the Miss SL Organization. Mika Palmyra and Parisian Skytower are the co-owners of LUXE Paris. Bringing up the rear, is myself.

So, we 7 each pick one submission a week. There are 5 semi-finalists a week and so far there has been some overlap in our selections because we have not had to meet to pick 5 from the initial 7. You can see this week’s 5 semi-finalists on the right.
