The Holidays are here… and the hustle and bustle of shopping, wrapping and baking goodies is on full steam ahead! Regardless if you believe in Santa or not, Christmas is a time to reflect on the art of giving and goodwill. It is the time that we make time to break bread with friends and family. Many of us think this sentiment should be celebrated throughout the year, and not for just one or two days a year. Even if you are not in a Christmas mood in Real Life, you are sure to be inspired in Second Life when visiting the many festive sims that go all out to celebrate the season!

Arvo – The Magic of Christmas Trees

To get in the mood your first stop should be Christmas at the House of Avra on Christmas Decorations (59, 116, 25), organized by Phoebe Avro, a resident of SL for ten plus years. Phoebe has set up a Victorian themed Christmas Village in SL for the past ten years. If the selection of beautiful trees doesn’t get you in the mood, then the fabulous decorations, including many animated elves and snowmen, found on this beautifully appointed sim will.

This sim is a festive pleasure to walk thru as it offers Christmas trees and decorations from thirty creators. There are activities, besides shopping and enjoying the scenery, like ice -skating, and there is even a snow globe carousel! I like taking the trolley around the shopping area to get a bird’s eye view of what catches my eye!

Santa and the North Pole – Go on a Holiday Hunt

Would Christmas really be complete without a visit to Santa at the North Pole… we at MANIERA SL think not! Here at the North Pole Village on Porvoo (199, 63, 116) you will find Santa and his elves busy at work preparing for the “big night!” You will feel like a kid again when entering this magical realm that has a sign that greets all visitors with one word… BELIEVE! Take a note card from this poster if you are inclined to hunt for 15 gifts that the elves have scattered about this colorful sim.

As you wander through this magical little village you will find that each workshop reflects the magic of Santa on his home turf, the North Pole. This sim is so whimsical and well done and will bring out the child in you… feelings that perhaps you have forgotten or those that you never really experienced… either way, a visit here will create a wonderful memory. There are a great deal of activities to be found here from skating penguins and snowmen to elves making toys and sorting mail to making gingerbread houses embellished with candy. We aren’t telling where Santa is… but he is around to see if you are naughty or nice!

Groenland Kangamiut – A Silent Night

For a change of pace, away from the hustle and bustle, head north, way north… near Santa’s home and check out the charming village named Groenland Kangamiut on Pryde (40, 127, 24). The builder welcomes all and notes, “Welcome to It All Starts With A Smile.”

This is a typical North Atlantic fishing village, you will almost smell the salt air – and if you turn on your sound, you will hear the cold north wind howl – so when you visit, make sure you bundle up! Lose yourself amid the cozy cottages and explore the authentic fishing harbor that overlooks the stormy North Atlantic Ocean that is sheltered by snow-covered mountains. The holiday decorations are modest and tasteful. It is a wonderful retreat and romantic retreat from all the glitter.

North Pole Sleigh Ride Adventure – Bring On the Romance

The North Pole Sleigh Ride on Octavia (10, 167, 58), now in it’s 7th year is a tradition for many of us on the grid. If it’s not yours… yet, then go check it out. It could become one of your SL holiday traditions too! Hop into the sleigh, put the blanket on and make your way through a lovely winter landscape. You will wind down a hillside through a pine-scented forest to the North Pole Village.

Sleigh rides are so romantic – they offer a sweet place to “cuddle up” with someone special and get to know them better. Along the way, you will see beautiful scenery with nostalgic Christmas themes… a candy village square, so many colorful trees and even a covered bridge your sleigh takes you thru, not to mention the North Polar Express Train, elves working and even a peek into Santa’s workshop! Afterward, grab a holiday meal and work it off ice-skating—arm in arm.

Wishing you the best of holiday experiences in both lives… from all of us at MANIERA SL, and onward to 2018!
